Review by M. Kelly for Standing In The Way Of Control Rating: When I first heard this song, it was during the recap’s from this British show called “Skins”. It was played throughout Season 1 and because the song was so catchy I sometimes would just replay and episode just to hear that song. When my daughter’s friend heard the song and told me who sang it, I immediately came to the Amazon website to purchase the song. Now I rock out to it now. Just simply adore this song, it not only makes you want to bob your head, but it makes you want to get up and do your thing. Awesome song!
Review by Amaranth for Standing In The Way Of Control Rating: “Standing in the Way of Control” is a fascinating little disco/dance/punk rock song,if one considers its background. It sounds like the usual inspirational “be yourself/be true to yourself” disco song, when in fact George W. Bush’s attempt to push the Federal Marriage Amendment inspired Beth Ditto to pen this. As an openly lesbian young woman from the South, Beth Ditto sang this as an ode against homophobia. She sees herself- and her compatriots- as “standing in the way of control.” It definitely has beat. “Standing in the Way of Control” makes one want to stand up and dance!
