FashionSchoolReview.com’s “Fashion Career Quiz” found that out of four fashion industry tracks–design, marketing, merchandising, and retail management– fashion design answers were the most popular. With such popularity and only 17,000 fashion design jobs available in the U.S., job applicants are likely to face fierce competition if they don’t have an educational edge. Many potential students facing the challenges of a competitive fashion design market are using the resources on FashionSchoolReview.com (http://www.fashionschoolreview.com).
FashionSchoolReview.com’s quiz was designed to help users get a feel for which fashion career track best suits their interests. The total responses for each track on the FashionSchoolReview.com quiz are:
Design: 10,691
Marketing: 4,417
Merchandising: 8,591
Retail-management: 3,631
Participants’ responses were analyzed and matched to four industry tracks. For example, in response to the question “What is it about your favorite clothing store that keeps you coming back?” one user chose, “The clothes! Great fabric, stitching, and design.” This answer was then matched to the track for fashion design. In another question, the user was prompted to finish the statement, “In fashion, it’s most important to be.” That user chose, “unique,” which also met the criteria for fashion design.
Fashion design’s popularity may be an offshoot of current popular culture and TV shows like “America’s Next Top Model” and “Project Runway.” According to the Reuters news group, 3.4 million people watched the final episode of “Project Runway,” Bravo’s popular fashion design show.
Fashion design is a large part of popular culture, and now potential students are turning their pop culture obsession into a career. In an article posted on Washington Post.com, Tim Gunn, Chair of Fashion Design at Parsons The New School for Design stated, “Fashion Design enrollments have risen in schools nationwide, and there were more designers participating in Olympus Fashion week than ever before.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics also shows an increased interest in fashion due to the creativity and glamour associated with the field. However, while interest continues to rise, the jobs in fashion design are still scarce. Because of the competitive nature of fashion design, students should be motivated to use FashionSchoolReview.com to find the fashion design programs that suit them best and will prepare them for the competitive job market.

hpvpro.go2jump.org LETTER TO GAGA OMG. So you guys I gave her the book! img.photobucket.com img.photobucket.com img.photobucket.com We waited in line since 8am. Gaga came in a black car around 3pm. We ran up to it, and she went into this big tour bus. The security guy said she is very tired and not feeling good, cuz she had a lot of shows. So she got out and blew a kiss at us, and said hi and went in. I had my book with me (the present) and asked her security guy if he could give it to her. He promised me he would, he was so nice. So I gave it to him, and went back in line. 20 min later, the guy comes back to the front, and was like “you guys waited from 8am? wow. Where is Sara” and I tell him I’m here. He was like “you gave her the book right?” and I was like “yea” and he said she was crying! she was sooo touched, that she couldn’t speak. he then asked me what color my hair was, and I said “brown” and he reported back thru a walkie talkie, and said “brown” .. and I was like wtf? why does she need to know that? haha. he then also asked how many friends I have, and I said “6 of us are inline” then he said ok. anyways, so he then tells me that gaga loved the book so much, that she is letting me go in early to MEET her!!!! That’s when in front of all my friends and everyone else there, I balled my eyes out. I mean, cried sooooo hard. I couldn’t believe it. I thanked him, and he said to wait there. Both fashion students and fashion pros who make a New Year’s resolution to be stylish in 2007 will learn which 2006 fashion trends should be retired at FashionSchoolReview.com, an interactive fashion education site. In her article “Fashion in the New Year,” FashionSchoolReview.com columnist Amelia Gray details five of the biggest fashion mistakes of 2006. Gray’s article offers a lighthearted yet useful look at some of the 2006 fashion trends that should be abandoned for 2007. Two of the biggest fashion mistakes of 2006, according to Gray, were the “skinny jean” and gaucho pants.
In her article, Gray suggests that as a fashionista, you should resolve to: “Cut skinny pants from your wardrobe, and regain the ability to breathe, move, and wear clothes that accentuate your best features.” The full text of “Fashion in the New Year” can be read at http://www.fashionschoolreview.com/news/2006/12/new-year-fashion.html
People.com supports Gray’s New Year’s resolution suggestion by declaring “Former drainpipe devotees Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton have come out in flared jeans in the past few weeks, and Rachel Bilson, who we thought looked adorable in her skinny jeans, has also moved onto wider straight leg jeans…it looks like this trend is winding down.”
